OAS CAHPS Early Adopter Program: A Pilot Study

To help you better understand the areas for improvement opportunities in outpatient and ambulatory surgery settings, we've developed a new knowledge brief, OAS CAHPS Early Adopter Program: A Pilot Study.

The knowledge brief presents a recent analysis conducted by Press Ganey that examined Early Adopter data from more than 130 Medicare-certified HOPDs and freestanding ASCs. Study findings show that there are opportunities to improve communication strategies and to use targeted patient experience surveys to identify deficits in care quality that are unique to the outpatient surgery population.

The analysis found that:

  • Targeted patient experience surveys help identify deficits in care quality that are unique to the outpatient surgery population.
  • Patients tend to rate communication-related items lower than other areas.
  • Ambulatory surgery providers should focus more attention on communication strategies to ensure that patients feel informed about post-surgical care.
